Robertson 42 Triple Skin Kauri Yacht Whanake
Length: 12.8m (42 feet)
Draft: 2.2m
Displacement: 15mt
Launched: 1972
Whanake is a one-off design by renowned boat designer Chris Robertson. Built by boat builder Brian Watts under Chris Robertsonís supervision.
Triple skin kauri, epoxy glass sheathed. Long fin keel with 2.2m draft. Skeg hung rudder.
Cutter rig with mainsail, yankee (lightweight and heavy weight), staysail and trysail.
Yanmar 3JH3E 3 cylinder 36hp. New 2000. Engine hours approx 3000.
Whanake is a proven ocean cruising vessel with 135,000 miles sailed; many in high latitudes of Falkland Islands, Southern NZ, Tasmania and Chilean Channels.
We have owned her for the past 12 years, while cruising from Scotland to NZ. We have now returned to land and wish to see her move on to the next owner. She has had a total of four careful owners, all who have kept her well-maintained. We ourselves gave her a major refit in 2015, including new chainplates and rudder stock, overhauling the steering system, windlass and mast fittings, exterior repaint, Coppercoat 10-year antifoul and many other extras.
If you are looking for a beautiful boat that has been designed and built to last (and we mean really last for 100+ years), is built for sailing with dry, safe and comfortable passages, then Whanake is this boat. With a relatively small engine (36hp) for her displacement, Whanake is a sailing boat, not a motor cruiser. Her speed under power is 5 knots, whereas her speed under sail is up to about 8 knots. We have done minimal motoring, preferring to sail (or drift) and regularly sail on and off the anchor with Whanake performing very well in these close quarter situations.
Inventory includes: 2.4m rowing/sailing tender, 25Kg Rocna and 20Kg Manson, 80m of 11mm grade 40 chain, windlass, radar, 160W solar panels, 3 service batteries and one engine battery, fridge, gas oven with three 4kg bottles, 250L and 290L stainless steel water tanks, 360L diesel storage, holding tank, water maker, diesel heater, Aries self-steering, Aries tillerpilot under power, depth sounder, log, VHF radio, HF radio, EPIRB, Jordan series drogue, engine spare parts, liferaft, MOB slings, mooring warps, fenders and many other extras.
Whanake is set up and ready to go as an ocean cruising vessel. Full details can be supplied to interested buyers.
